The Lamb of God
Jesus has several names and a lot of titles. Each of these has a very important meaning. When we take them all together, we get a better insight into the Person and work of Jesus. This is a great study for us to do to draw closer to Jesus and to come to know Him better. I am not sure which title God would say is the most significant and full of insights. However, I believe John, the Baptist, gave us one of the most important, if not the most important title for Jesus. (John 1:29) When John, the Baptist, saw Jesus coming to him, he said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." He was one of the first to know Jesus as the Messiah, and this is one of the first public proclamations of who He was. I believe we can learn much from this title of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus is "The" Lamb of God. He is the Only Lamb of God. There is no one else who could ever be the Lamb of God except Jesus, the Perfect God/Man. He is God's Lamb. At the Passover each family killed a lamb to be sacrificed, so the blood could cover their dwelling, and they would be safe from harm. Jesus is the Lamb God, the Father, chose. When He chose Him, God knew that He would have to die to shed His precious blood to pay for our sins. He still chose Jesus and sent Him to earth, because He knew that was the only way to take away the sin of the world. Since God loved all of us, so much, He had to die Himself for our sins. That is the only sacrifice, the Only Lamb, who could take away the sin of the world once and for all. Now, aren't we all glad John, the Baptist, told everyone that Jesus was the Lamb of God? I pray we will never forget it. I pray we will praise Him, more and more, for shedding His blood to cleanse our sins.
