Power Perfected in Weakness
Whenever we feel powerful in our own strength, we are deceiving ourselves. We do not have any power that doesn't come from God, and our power is very limited, even then, compared to God's power. The reality is that we are all weak. We all need God's help in everything. That is what Paul found out when he had the thorn in his flesh from God. God would not answer Paul's prayers to remove this physical problem. (II Corinthians 12:9) Then, Jesus came to him and said, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Then, Paul started boasting about his weakness, because he knew then the power of Christ could dwell in him. That would enable him to be so much more powerful than if he did not have any weakness. This is true for all of us, as believers.
There is never any situation in our life that God's grace is not sufficient to handle. We must rest in that truth. Then, when we have a difficulty, we will stop trying to handle it ourselves and ask God to take care of it for us. When we do that, we will find out what real power is all about. When we are weak, and we trust in the Lord for His power, we become stronger than we could ever have imagined. God's power is perfected, it is brought to completion, in our weakness. That will lead us not to worry about our weaknesses, but to rather boast about them. We can do that because we know that our weakness brings an opportunity for the power of Christ to dwell in us to meet the need. When that happens, we see things done we could never have done or even thought of. We find out the sufficiency of God in a new way, and we are able to exhibit His power through us in another situation for all to see. Then, we and others can give God all of the glory for His power displayed in and through us.
