Our Power Source
We all need the power of Christ to dwell in us, so we can do God's will, as we saw yesterday from II Corinthians 12. It begins when we come to know Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Then, when we realize that we are weak, so we can't do God's will on our own, we stop trying to do things ourselves. We trust in the Lord and His power is perfected in our weakness. However, I believe there is one more step that helps us live in that power, minute by minute, day by day. (Galatians 2:20) Paul found the secret to living life as a believer. We are crucified with Christ; and it is no longer us, the old person we were before salvation, who is living. Now Christ lives in us, and the life we now live in the flesh, we live by faith in the Lord Jesus, who loved us and gave Himself up for us. It is in this way that Christ is our life. He is our power, so we can do all things through Christ.
I call this verse God's 220. Like the powerful electricity that has 220 volts of electricity for running powerful appliances and machines, we have God's power. How can that be? The reality is that when we are saved, our old self is put to death. We no longer have that sinful nature to drag us down. Now, we are new creatures in Christ. (II Corinthians 5:17) Christ became our life. We still live in the flesh, though. We have the flesh to tempt us to sin and take us away from God. Therefore, we have to live by faith in Jesus, not listening to the flesh. Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us on the Cross, so this transformation could occur by grace through faith. Now, we depend on His power to live in and through us each day, empowered by the Spirit. That is God's 220 for us, so we will have plenty of power to do whatever He commands us or leads us to do. We can have that power 24/7 if we live by faith in Jesus all the time, not listening to the flesh or trying to do things ourselves.
