Listen to Him
It must have been a truly awesome sight to behold Jesus on the mountain, as His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as light. Then, to see Him meeting with Moses and Elijah, was just too good to be true for Peter, James, and John. Peter was so excited about being there with these three that he volunteered to make three tabernacles, one for each of them, so they could stay a while. However, the Father broke in. (Matthew 17:5) A bright cloud overshadowed them all, and a voice from the cloud spoke clearly, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased, listen to Him." I think the Father might be saying the same thing to us today.
I believe God has shown all of us that Jesus is the Lord of all. (John 1:1-8) Some people just reject God's revelation of Jesus to them, and they are without excuse for not trusting Him as Lord and Savior. However, there are those of us who know Him, like Peter did. We have a personal relationship with Jesus that is real and personal. We can see that He is holy. He is God who became man, so He could shed His perfect blood for us. Jesus did that because He loves us so much. As long as we follow Him well, and we depend on Him for everything, we do just fine. However, when we try to help Him out and make suggestions for what He should do, then we have big problems. That is when God has to come to us and remind us of who Jesus is. Then, the Father says to us, "Listen to Him." Let's not make decisions based on our own knowledge, and let's certainly not try to give Jesus our way to do things. Let's just be still and listen to Jesus. He will always do the right thing and lead us to do the right thing in the right way. The key is that we must be listening on a moment by moment basis.
