Call His Name Jesus
The whole Bible is about the Good News of Jesus. As we read from Genesis to Revelation everything points to Jesus. Now, we are beginning to read the New Testament books. The first four books are the Gospels. That means the "Good News." They shout to us that Jesus is God who came to die for our sins and to rise again to provide for our salvation. That is exactly what God communicated to Mary and then to Joseph, the earthly parents of Jesus. (Matthew 1:21) We have heard this story many times, but I pray, we will never lose our sense of awe over what God has done for us. Then, I pray we will share the Good News with everyone.
The angel of the Lord told Joseph that his betrothed wife, Mary, would bear a "Son." Of course, Son is capitalized, because this refers to the Second Person of the Trinity. God is One. (Deuteronomy 6:4) However, He has revealed Himself to us in a way we can understand Him the best we can with our finite minds. He shows Himself to us as Father, Son, and Spirit. Jesus is the Son. He was called on to go to the earth by being born of a virgin, live a sinless life, and die to shed His perfect blood as the payment for the sins of all humanity. He is Eternal God, but He is called Son, because He took on human flesh to become 100% God and 100% Man. That way, Jesus could reveal the Father to us and He could provide the one time sacrifice for all sins. His name, Jesus, means "God saves." His name reveals His mission. It also shows His love, because He had to die for us to save us. Then, it shows the Good News that His death is to save all people who will turn to Him in repentance and faith, as their Lord and Savior. It is my desire for us to see Jesus clearly as we read the New Testament and to know every aspect of all the Good News. I know God will bless our journey as He always does.
