Life Is More Than Food and Clothes
For many people one of the greatest experiences in life is eating at a very nice restaurant and indulging in delicious foods. Even when they fix meals at home, they have to make it a big production to make just the right things to satisfy their appetite. On the other hand, many people have their day ruined, when they do not get what they want to eat. For others, they put a premium on going shopping to find just the right clothes to wear. They take a lot of time, and they put in a lot of thought to what they will wear each day. They believe it is so important to make the proper impression on others by how they are dressed. Jesus tried to dispel this way of thinking. (Matthew 6:25) He told us that we should not worry about what we will eat or what we will wear. Then, He asked, "Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" Now, that is a great question for us to ponder.
What is the meaning of life? What makes our life worthwhile? Many people miss the real substantial things that make life meaningful and satisfying, because they are concentrating on food, clothes, and material things. Those things do not make us fulfilled. They just fill our stomach, and they make us look good on the outside. It is who we are on the inside that matters. It is how we think and how we relate to God and others that brings great meaning to life. After all, we only have one pass through life. We only have one chance to get it right. We need to pay attention to who God says we are to be, what kind of character we should develop to be happy and have a productive life. It is our relationship with God that makes that knowledge possible, so He must come first to have an abundant life. We must know Jesus as Lord and Savior, growing to be more like Him every day. Then, we will have solid, loving relationships with all kinds of people, helping them to do the same things. Now, that is what life is all about. It is far more than food and clothes, isn't it?
