Turning Our Backs on God

We should always be careful how we treat others. We can be attentive to them or shut them out. Of course, when we shut out another person, it is a great insult. I would imagine we have all had someone turn his or her back on us while we were talking to them. That hurts us a lot. If this is true for us, just think how it makes God feel. Jeremiah tells us that is just what His people did to the Lord. (Jeremiah 32:33) They turned their back on God not their face, even though He was teaching them over and over. They did not receive His instruction, and that brought them to ruin. We need to hear this warning,  as believers.

Even though we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can tune God out. He gives us that freedom.  We can stop listening to the Holy Spirit. We can fail to read and study the Bible, God's love letter to us. We can turn our back on God and do things our way, not His way. When we turn our back on God like this, and we do not receive His instruction,  we will suffer the consequences, even though we are His child. God, our Father, doesn't bless us in our disobedience and laziness. He punishes us, so we will turn our face to Him and hear Him. Then, He blesses us as we do just what He teaches. This explains why some believers are miserable and some are joyful. Which will it be for you?
