A Vision of Their Own Imagination
There are many people today who are claiming to be speaking for the Lord. It is a lot like the time in which Jeremiah was a prophet to Judah. They are false prophets. A prophet is a person who "speaks forth" the word of God. It is not just a person who reveals future events, though God can show them those, too. However, a false prophet is one who speaks, but he has not heard from God. He is making up what he is saying for his benefit or to try to tells others what they want to hear. Jeremiah warned the people of God in Judah not to listen to that kind of prophet. (Jeremiah 23:16) He told the people they were leading them into futility, because they were speaking a vision from their own imagination, not from the mouth of the Lord. That is what God showed Jeremiah, and it is the perfect definition of a false prophet.
We see all kinds of positive thinkers these days. We see many preachers who just want to make people feel good. Then, we see those who say we should dream big, and God will bring our dreams to pass. That is backwards. We are to go to the Lord, and seek His vision of what we should do or what His will is for us or our country. Then, when He reveals His vision, we deliver it to others. God's vision comes straight from His Perfect Word, the Bible. It is our authority. If what a person says is not found clearly in the Bible, it is from their own imagination, not from the mouth of God. We must not listen to them or promote what they say, just because it sounds good. They just have a good imagination, not a direct line to God.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 24-26.
