God Searches the Heart
Our heart is how we make decisions. We go by how we feel in our heart and how we think with our mind. They work together. The problem is that when we try things on our own, we usually do the wrong thing. Even when we are careful to think things through, we often miss God's will. Jeremiah tells us the reason for this. (Jeremiah 17:9,10) The heart is more deceitful than all else. It is desperately sick because of our sinful nature. We can't understand the heart, but God can because He knows all, and He searches our hearts. He does that to give each of us according to our ways and according to the results of our deeds. So, what are we supposed to do?
We must never trust our own heart. Yes, when we are redeemed from our sins, we receive a new heart. Also, we have the Holy Spirit within us then to guide us. However, Satan can still influence our heart to do the wrong things and our minds to think the wrong way. Therefore, we must take every decision to the Lord and find His will from His Word. Then, we must do what God's Word tells us as the Spirit guides us, whether we feel like it or not. We must do it, even if it doesn't seem right to us. We are not the judge of right and wrong. Also, we are not the judge of our own life. God will judge us based on what ways we chose, His ways or our ways. He will judge us based on the results of our deeds. If we do His way, we will get good fruit or good results. So, don't trust your heart. Trust the Lord.
