The Ancient Paths
We live in a day and time when most people think the newest ways to do things are the best ways. They are constantly striving to learn more and more from people who claim to be "experts." This causes things to change, and now, they are changing faster and faster. I think we need to stop and learn a lesson from all of this. Is life really going better for us now than it was going 50 or 75 years ago? Yes, I know we have modern technology that makes our lives better in some ways. That is not what I am talking about. I am talking about our personal lives, our families, our churches, our schools, our communities, and our country, as a whole. Are those things operating better by the new ways? I don't think so, myself. I agree with what God told Judah to do through the prophet Jeremiah. (Jeremiah 6:16) God told His people then to stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is. Then, walk in those paths. He promised to give rest to their souls, if they would do just that. However, they were like people today, and they refused. Please, learn from this verse.
God established truth before He created the world. He set up the world to run on His will and in His ways. What He taught Adam and Eve the right way for humans to live. They failed to do His will, so they suffered for their disobedience. God gave Moses the Law to show us how to live well. We have rejected the laws that are still in effect for today, and we see damage to our lives because of that. Jesus came 2,000 years ago. He taught us the right ways. Most people reject the teachings of Jesus, too. However, those ways are the ancient paths. If we will stand by them, we will see that God is serious about what He has told us. He will give rest to our minds, wills, and emotions, so we will not be stressed and striving to learn something new all of the time. We will be content with His ways from times of old. Now, the choice is up to us. Which way will we choose to go, the new paths or the ancient paths? I have decided the ancient paths are by far the best.
