Confessing Our Sins
God commands us to confess our personal sins to Him. He promises that when we confess, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In addition to confessing our personal sins, we need to confess the sins of our church and our country. In other words, we need to take personal responsibility for confessing the sins of the groups of people to which we belong. That is what Nehemiah did when he received the bad report about the reproach on the sons of Israel in Jerusalem. (Nehemiah 1:6) This is a powerful lesson for all of us, and we need to practice confessing our sins before God.
Confession is taking personal responsibility for sins and then, saying what God would say about those sins. Once the confession is made sincerely, God hears our prayer and sees our heart, so that He can cleanse us. Today is the National Day of Prayer in the USA. I believe all of us, as believers, need to spend extra time in prayer today. We need to make a large part of our prayers confession of the sins of our churches and our country. We need to cry out to God like Ezra and Nehemiah did, knowing that God will hear and heal when His people pray. Please, don't be too busy. Make a list and confess those sins, asking God to forgive and to get us back on the right track with Him.
