The Amalekties attacked Ziklag while David and his men were away. They looted the town, took all of the women and children with them, and then they burned the town. When David and his men returned they were all devastated at the loss of their families. However, God told David to go after them. God allowed them to recover everything, their families and everything, plus more. Some of the men were too tired to fight, so they stayed in the camp and guarded the gear. When David and the others returned, the men who fought did not want to share the loot with them. David spoke up and declared that everyone would share equally in the things they took from the Amalekites, even the ones who stayed by the gear. David made it a rule for them to share and share alike. (I Samuel 30:24) I believe this is a timely word for us right now.
The social distancing and quarantining that is going on now for the Corona virus problem have made people get pretty greedy. The store shelves have been cleared of many things by the first people to get to the store. Now, others can't find what they need for their families. People are hoarding, in case they have to stay in for 2 weeks or more. I pray we will remember this principle that David began to enforce on his men. Let's decide now that we will share and share alike. Just because we were able to find more than we needed doesn't mean we should not help those who couldn't. This is especially true for believers. Let's remember how the early church in Acts 2 and Acts 4 were sharing everything, so no one had a need. I pray that will be able to be said for our church in this time of crisis and for all of the churches. That would be a great testimony to the unbelievers around us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 1-3.
