A Moral Dunce

King Saul was blessed by God. God chose him to be the first king of Israel, and He equipped him with all he needed to do well. Samuel was there to guide him, too. However, it was not long before He disobeyed God, and God rejected him, as the king. Then, God chose David to replace Saul, so Saul set out to kill David. On two occasions David could have killed Saul, but he would not lift his hand against God's anointed king. After the second incident, Saul confessed that he had sinned by trying to harm David. He told David he had been a moral dunce. (I Samuel 26:21) I am afraid there are many people today, even believers, who are guilty of being moral dunces.

Our morals are the rules by which we live our lives. Some people think that society decides on our morals. Others believe that each one of us makes up our own morals according to our intelligence and experience. Neither of these two views is correct. God created people. He designed how society should operate, too. Therefore, God laid down the rules for how we are all supposed to live in His Word, the Bible. We can't change it just because it doesn't fit what makes us happy or brings us pleasure. The reason for that is our fleshly desires will always lead us away from God's morals. That is how Saul became a moral dunce. He disobeyed God and followed his flesh that told him to kill David. We must be warned by his example and act with God's morals like David did, even when it goes against our flesh and our society.
