Delivered by Grace through Faith

Israel continued to grumble, even after God showed them the wondrous sign of Aaron's rod that budded and gave fresh almonds in one night, I reminded us in my last post how much God hates grumbling and complaining. This time God sent poisonous snakes into the camp to punish the people for their sin. The snakes bit the people and many died. They asked Moses to intercede for them, which he did. God told Moses to do something unusual. He instructed Moses to make a snake and put it on a pole, so that anyone who was bit could look at the snake and be healed. (Numbers 21:6,8) What an unusual cure for a terrible problem. It is a great insight into God's way of meeting our greatest need. Looking at the snake showed their faith in God's way to be cured.

We have not been bitten by poisonous snakes, but we are all dying from sin, until we find God's cure. Since we all have sinned, we are all facing spiritual death for eternity, separated from God in hell. Many people try to cure themselves from sin by working hard to do good things or by following a religion. Nothing we can ever do is effective to cure our sin problem. However, God provided the answer. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross for our sins. Then, when we look on Him in faith, believing He is the only one who can save us from sin, God takes our sins away, and we are healed spiritually. God does this by His grace, as a free gift, once we personally put our faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. Jesus even alluded to Moses' snake  when He was witnessing to Nicodemus in John 3. I hope we will all read this account, and if you have not trusted Jesus, please do it soon. Receive God's free gift by faith. You won't regret it.
