Our Riches by His Grace
How rich are you? That question can be answered in so many ways and from so many perspectives. Most of the time we think of how much money we have, if we are asked how rich we are. However, that kind of riches is not really that important. One day those riches will be gone and forgotten. The real riches come from knowing Christ and being spiritually rich in Him. That is how the Macedonian believers were rich, and Paul was reminding the believers in Corinth about this truth. (II Corinthians 8:9) I hope we all will consider how Christ's grace makes us rich beyond measure.
The grace of Jesus Christ is the fact that He knew we were all doomed because of our sins, so He came to die for us, and to give those who trust Him forgiveness of sin and the abundant life. He had to become very poor to make that happen. He left the riches of heaven and became a servant to die on the cross and shed His blood for us. At the same time, He knew that He was providing us with great riches as a grace gift. We could never earn it or deserve it, but He gives us salvation when we turn from sin to Him as our Lord and Savior. Then, we are joint heir with Him of all that heaven offers for eternity. That is the greatest wealth anyone can ever have, and it all comes from the grace of Jesus.
