A Double Promise
As we look for the promises of God in His Word this year, it is always great to find a verse with a promise. It is even better to find a verse with two promises in it. That is what we have today, and they are so practical, because they are promises about temptation. We are all tempted to sin every day, so we all need to hear this double promise and apply it to our lives. (I Corinthians 10:13) In fact, we need to memorize this promise God gave to Paul for all of us.
The fact of the matter is that we never have any temptation that is worse than what other people experience. The devil will tell us that we can't resist the temptation, because it is just too powerful for us. That is never true for any believer. The temptations we have are common to all people, and the Lord will never let a believer be tempted beyond what we are able to endure. That is the first part of this double promise. If we trust the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to empower us, there is no temptation that God allows that is too strong for us. However, as an added bonus, God always provides a way of escape from doing the wrong thing. We must not let Satan tell us that the situation is hopeless, because we only have two options and both of them are bad. God is able. He is faithful. He always gives us another option, whereby we can stay true to Him and not sin. Isn't that a terrific promise? So the next time we are tempted to sin, we need to remember this verse, praise God for His power, and ask for the way out He has for us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Corinthians 13-15.
