Gazing into Heaven
There are times in our lives when it would be wonderful to gaze into heaven. It would be very comforting to see the beauty of heaven, but even better to see the glory of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. That is what happened for Stephen as he was being stoned to death as the first Christian martyr. (Acts 7:55) We might think this was done special for Stephen because of God's grace and mercy for him. However, I believe this is possible for any believer, if we have the same spiritual condition as Stephen had then.
The Bible identifies Stephen as being "full of the Holy Spirit." Any believer can enjoy being full of the Spirit, but we have to yield ourselves fully to His control in our lives. Once we do that, the Spirit is able to do all kinds of things to show us what God wants us to see and to know. Without being full of the Spirit we can't see and know those things, because they are spiritually discerned. When we are full of the Spirit, we can see and experience the glory of God in times of worship and other times. We sense His powerful presence right with us, and we know He is the Lord of all. We have all heard stories or even have seen people who were dying, and they were able to gaze into heaven and see the beauty and even the Lord Jesus. I have heard them speak of loved ones who had gone before them that they were able to see. I pray that we will all stay filled with the Spirit, so we can be ready for anything God has to show us or to teach us. It is such a comfort and a strength for God's children.
