God's Requirements for us
There are many people who are really worried about meeting God's requirements, so they can go to heaven when they die. They seem to think that if they are good morally and do good works God will be happy with them and let them in. However, the Bible gives a totally different picture. The message is the same in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. God's desire for mankind has always been to have a relationship with us by grace through faith. The prophet Micah expressed that to the people of Israel in his day. (Micah 6:8) This very famous passage has a lot to say to all of us.
God reveals Himself to all of mankind. He does this for all people by showing His power and God-head through His creation. He also reveals Himself to us individually as He speaks to our hearts during the joys and trials of life. His Word is a very specific revelation of Himself to us, and Jesus Christ was the ultimate revelation to us. He is not hiding what He wants from us. Yes, He desires for us to live life in a good moral and just way. God is a God of justice and order, and that is His will for us and society as a whole. However, in addition to that, God is looking for us to love faithfulness. He wants to see us trust Jesus Christ as Lord, not out of obligation, but willingly. He wants to walk with each of us as we humbly follow Him. Can you see the relationship here? Micah laid it out well. Now, it is up to each of us to give ourselves completely to the Lord for eternity, if we wish to do what He requires. He is worthy of such humble devotion from us, and we will be blessed abundantly by our loving God.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Micah 7 and Nahum 1-2.
