Daily !

There are many things we do every day because they are necessary to live well. Most of us sleep every day, or we feel terrible. We eat and drink every day, or we get very weak. I hope we bathe every day, as well as, brush our teeth daily. These plus other things are needed to really be healthy and happy in our lives. As Christians, there are also things we need to do on a daily basis to live well. After all, Christianity is a daily walk or life with Jesus. It is a relationship, not a religion. We should have a daily quiet time or unhurried time with the Lord. However, Luke gives us another vital daily practice which Jesus told His disciples. (Luke 9:23) I pray that we will hear what Jesus said and do it every day.

Luke was a physician. When he was inspired by the Holy Spirit to record his gospel account of Jesus' life and teaching, he was very precise. In Luke 9:23 he includes a daily practice that Matthew and Mark record as a general practice. I believe Luke is giving us a vital detail. We need to take up our cross daily, and follow Jesus. The cross was the instrument of death in those days, so Jesus was saying was that we must die to ourselves and our self-will every day, and then follow Him. If we do not do that each day, our flesh will take charge, and we will not end up following Jesus, but we will do what we want each day. That is why this is such a vital daily practice. I pray that we will all make this a part of our morning unhurried time with the Lord. Then, we can ask Jesus to show us His will for that day, and we do it faithfully in the Spirit, not hindered by the flesh.
