The Lamb of God

Jesus has many names and titles in the Bible. All of them are meaningful and help us understand His nature and His mission. When John, the Baptist, saw Jesus coming toward him one day, he said, "Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." (John 1:29) This one statement and title for Jesus reveals to us a lot about who He is. I hope we can spend a little time reflecting on what John, the Baptist, told us.

Jesus is the Lamb of God. Just like lambs are sacrificed during the Jewish feast of the Passover, Jesus died to shed His blood, so we could all be protected. Now, we do not have to be concerned about the death of our firstborn, like they did in Egypt. We need to be concerned about our own death. Remember, the wages of sin is death, and we have all sinned. Therefore, all of us will die unless we have salvation from our sin. Jesus shed His blood to pay for the sin of the entire world, not just a few people, but everyone who ever has or will live on this earth. His precious blood is the only payment that God, the Father will take for our sin. Therefore, we see that Jesus, the meek and humble Lamb came to give us the ultimate sacrifice to spare us from eternity in hell and enable us to be in heaven forever. He gave Himself for us, even though He was as innocent as a lamb. He never sinned, but He became sin for us. See what I mean. John told us a lot about Jesus on the day that he proclaimed this truth for all to hear. I pray that we have all heard it and trusted in Christ, as our Lord and Savior for the forgiveness of our sins. If not, please trust Him today.
