The Lord Gives Wisdom
As we begin reading through the book of Proverbs, I want to make sure we understand the true significance of this book in God's Word. As my pastor used to say when I was growing up, "If you need wisdom, read Proverbs." Wisdom only comes from God, because He created right and wrong, good and bad. He set in motion the entire universe, so He is the only One who fully knows how everything works and how it all works together. My definition of wisdom is being able to see all of the facts the way God sees them. That is why we can say with confidence that all true wisdom comes from God. (Proverbs 2:6) He is the Only true source of wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
There are many people who claim to be wise. Some only have the wisdom of this world, which is not really wisdom at all. It is contrary to how God created everything, and it is the opposite of how He sees the facts. Therefore, we must not turn to universities or philosophers for wisdom. We must turn to the Lord and His Word. Solomon was the wisest man ever, because God gave him more wisdom than anyone else has ever had or will ever have. Therefore, this book is a compilation of the wisdom God gave him. Also, from the Lord's mouth come knowledge and understanding. That means we have to get them from His Word and as the Spirit speaks to us to show us God's way. If we follow God's Word and the Spirit, we will have wisdom from God, as well as, knowledge and understanding. That is how He gives it to us today. I pray God will give each of us more of His wisdom as we read Proverbs this year.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 3-6.
