Search Me, God

It is impossible for us to fully know our own hearts. We are blinded by our own subjectivity. We look at the things we think and do through a jaded lens, since we tend to be lenient on ourselves. We tend to make excuses for what we do, and we make excuses when we do not do what we should do. That makes it hard for us to live the way the Lord wants us to live without help. We can get help from our good Christian friends, and we should do that. However, the perfect view of our life can only come from God. That is why we regularly, even daily, need to ask Him to search our hearts and to see if there is any offensive way in us. Then, we ask how we can live in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23,24) That is what David did, and God had him record this for us, so we would do it, too.

The Bible says that our heart is desperately wicked, and we can't fully know all of it. (Jeremiah 17:9,10) However, God knows our heart. He searches our heart, and He can see everything. (I Samuel 16:7) He tests us to know our concerns, to see if we are really focusing on Him and His ways, or if we are off base and worrying.  When we sincerely ask Him to search us, He will show us anything that is offensive to Him. The offensive things are our sins, which we must confess, so we can be cleansed. (I John 1:9) Then, He can show us how to think right and do right the next time, so we can stay on the narrow way He has for us on the road to heaven. We can start doing the things here that we will do in heaven, and we can get our minds in line with His mind here. That is the best life anyone can live.
