The Sustaining Power of God

Not only was King David attacked by his enemies, but at times, he was attacked by those who claimed to be his friends, also. I think we all know how stressful that can be for us. It can really take the wind out of our sails and cause us to be discouraged. It places a huge burden on our heart, because we wonder why a friend would do that to us. It can cause us to be suspicious of our other friends, so that we are not sure who to trust. David knew how to handle this and other burdens in his life. (Psalm 55:22) We all need to do the same thing.

We are told here and in other places in the Bible that our first action should be to cast our burden on the Lord. It is always wrong to worry about it or to try to handle it in our own power. If we do that, we will get depressed, and our strength will fail us. However, if we do go to the Lord in prayer first and cast our care on Him, He will sustain us. He will give us the peace and the strength to move forward in a positive way. He will come along beside us and allow us to lean on Him for strength, or He might even carry us through that hard time. Either way, God will never allow the righteous to be shaken. We will not be thrown off course in our lives. We will be steady, because we are operating in His grace and power, not our own. I urge all of us to run to the Lord with all of our burdens. Never try to carry them, but cast them on Him, and see how His power comes to sustain us to go on in peace and not turmoil.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 56-58.
