The Physical Effects of Sin
Most people do not have an understanding of the devastation caused by our sins. Yes, many people may realize that our sins separate us from the Lord. We may know that we have to be saved from our sins, or we can't make it to heaven. However, there are many effects of sin that we feel every day of our lives, if we do not confess our sins regularly and make things right with God and others. David knew what it was to suffer from his sins. He gave us a graphic description of the effects of sin. (Psalm 38:3,6) I pray this will open our eyes to what may be going on in our lives.
Sin effects the soundness of our bodies. Sin has physical effects. Most of us do not consider this fact. However, sin causes our bodies not to work as God designed. When God is upset with us because of our sins, He shows us His indignation in various ways. We know inside that He is not pleased with us. That places a burden in our hearts, and the condition of our heart effects the condition of our body. In fact, it can cause us to be unhealthy in our bones. Our bones make our blood, which is a huge factor in whether we have good health or not. We could even be bent over under the weight of our sins, instead of walking in an upright position. In addition, all of this leads to mourning in our lives, instead of joy. When we go around in mourning because of our sins, if we do not confess those sins, the depression can get worse and worse.
Let me share briefly why this happens. We are body, soul, and spirit. Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions. Sin effects our mind, will, and emotions, as well as, our spirit, which relates to God. Since they are all connected to each other in an inseparable unity, what effects one has an effect on the other two. Therefore, spiritual problems effect our mind, will, emotions, and our bodies. Sin drags them all down. That is why it is vital to confess our sins daily and to repent of them, so we do what is right, instead of continuing in them.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 39-42.
