Whatever the Lord Pleases, He Does
There are so many people in the world that think they can manipulate God to do what they want Him to do. To them, He is just a cosmic genie who will grant them their wishes. Nothing could be further from the truth. The One True God, who created all things, does whatever He pleases. (Psalm 135:6) The psalmist knew this, and we need to learn it, too. It is not a bad thing at all. It is a very good thing, when we understand the Lord.
God knows everything, and He sees everything that happens in the universe at one time. He is outside time and space, so He sees the beginning and the end of all things at the same time. He knows everything that comes between, and He knows every detail about it. Nothing evades His knowledge. Nothing takes Him by surprise, and He always know the right thing to do in every circumstance. Also, we know that God is love, so He always does the right thing and the loving thing at the same time. Many times, we think we have to choose between the two, but we are mistaken. It is because we can't see and know all that He knows. We are limited, but He is not. Therefore, when we pray, we should pray for His will to be done, not ours. We should trust Him to do what is right and loving, no matter what we think. Then, we should ask Him to show us anything else we need to do. He will not tell us why He does things very often, but He will tell us what we need to know and do, because of His decision. If we need to repent of sin, or be reconciled to another person, He will show us that is the problem. If He has to tell us "No," He will tell us what we need to do instead of what we wanted to do. In all of this, we always remember that His way is best for us, so it is good that He does what He pleases.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 137-139.
