Knowing How to Live
Many people simply do whatever they think is right. They do what feels good to them. They follow the crowds. Then, they wonder why things do not work out well in their lives. The reason is that they are living in the darkness of sin which comes natural to us until we come to know the Lord. The Lord wants all of us to live in the light of righteousness, so we can experience His blessings. That is why He has given us His commandments, and teaching, and discipline. (Proverbs 6:23) They give us light for our lives.
The commandments of God are like lamps that brighten all of life. Once we know them and obey them, we live as God desires. Then, He can bless our obedience. His teachings on particular subjects shine light in a very specific way on something we need to know or do. Therefore, we do well to heed to the teachings of the Word of God, too. Finally, there are reproofs of discipline in God's Word, and we receive them from other believers. If we heed these reproofs, we find the way of life. We develop discipline in how we live, so we live in God's righteousness consistently. That is the best way to live.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 7-9.
