Unity Among Believers
God is the God of unity, not division. In fact, He hates things that divide people. This is especially true of believers. He desires for believers to have the same unity and love for each other that God, the Father, Son, and Spirit has enjoyed for eternity in the past and will always enjoy. That is what the psalmist knew, so he was able to affirm how good and pleasant that unity among believers was. (Psalm 133:1) I wonder how much unity we have among believers around us? That is a key question.
Since God loves unity and commands us to be unified with other believers, being in one accord and having the same love and mind for each other, it is sinful if we fail to accomplish that ideal. If we depend on the Lord and the power of the Spirit, it is always possible to have this supernatural unity. When we have it, our lives are filled with so much more joy and peace than when we don't. That is why I would admonish all of us as believers to strive for this unity with God's power. It should never be the case that a Christian husband and wife can't get along. They should have this unity and God's love for each other. Parents and children who are Christians should always have God's unity. There should be no divisions in Christian families. The church should always be unified, too. We can see the greatest fruit in the body of Christ, when we are of one accord, and we work together in love. I hope this shows all of us the command of God for unity and the consequences of it. Now, it is up to us to pursue this unity with all believers for the glory of God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 134-136.
