My Comfort in My Affliction
Afflictions are part of life in this world. A major factor in our quality of life is how we handle those trials and afflictions. People have all types of coping mechanisms, but most of them do not really work well. They may be partially effective, or they may temporarily help, but the results do not really bring meaningful comfort. So, how are we supposed to find comfort in all of our afflictions? The psalmist showed us the only answer that brings complete comfort in every situation. (Psalm 119:50) That is something great for all of us to know.
God's promises give us life. That is the source of our comfort in affliction, since there is a promise of God for every affliction we might encounter. If we have a problem with anxiety of any kind, we can go to Isaiah 26:3, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because He trusts in You." If we have a need for physical afllictions, we can claim Psalm 46:1, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." In other words, our comfort all comes down to how much we trust the Lord and His Word. If we know that God is always faithful, and He always keeps His Word, we have comfort in any affliction knowing He will do what He said He will do. We can count on Him. I can say from my personal experience that this is true. He has never failed me in any situation. I pray all of us will come to experience that comfort only He can give.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 119:57-176.
