The Death of God's Saints
Many people do not like to talk about death or even think about death. It is painful for us to think about being separated from our loved ones. We know we will be sad without them and go through grief because of our loss. Then, when it comes to our own death, we are scared about how we will die. Both of these things plus other factors make people shy away from the subject. However, it is a part of life, unless Jesus comes for us before we die. Therefore, we need to have the proper perspective of death. The psalmist gave us great comfort and insight when he told us "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. (Psalm 116:15) Let's consider why this is true.
God's perspective on the death for His saints, those who know Christ as Lord and Savior, is the opposite of our perspective. He loves His saints. He knows that to enter His presence, we must experience the death of our physical body. However, He knows that His saints never die. We only go from this world directly into His presence. He knows we will experience peace like we have never known, and we will be overwhelmed by the glory of heaven, which Jesus Himself prepared for His own. Also, He is wanting to lavish His love on us in a way that we have not been able to experience it in our mortal bodies. Therefore, our death is very precious to Him.
I might add one more thing, too. As believers, God has led us throughout every event of our lives 24/7 365. He has never failed us. He has never left us or forsaken us. He has always provided more than we needed, even when He allowed us to go through pain, trials, and other suffering. Therefore, we have every reason to trust Him that He will do the same thing when it comes to our death. His grace will be more than sufficient for us and for those we leave behind. May God bring us great comfort and the ability to say with Paul, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." (Philippians 1:22)
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 118-119:56.
