Lovesick

Are you lovesick? Have you ever been lovesick? If you are or ever have been lovesick, you know that it is real. Now, you also know it comes from the Song of Solomon. (Song of Solomon 5:8) Solomon and his bride were passionately in love with each other, and that is what this book is about. It is written in the language and symbolism of Solomon's time, so much of it is hard for us to grasp. However, it is plain to anyone who reads this book that they were in love with each other, and God included it in the Bible, so we would see the importance of marital love and how to express our love to our spouse.

I hope that we were not just lovesick when we met our future spouse. Real love should grow stronger each year of our relationship. If that is not the case, then, we do not understand how to live out our love for another person. Yes, it involves words of love and appreciation, but it is also cultivated by our actions. The Bible is very plain that God created sexual relations as an intimate expression of love between and man and his wife, as they are totally committed to each other for life.(I Corinthians 7:2-5) That is the only time it is appropriate or truly fulfilling. Therefore, we should be lovesick for our spouse now, more than ever before, because love grows when it is cultivated.

Also, the Bible says that Jesus is "The Beloved."(Ephesians 1:6) Are you lovesick for Jesus? Is your relationship with Jesus strong and growing? When we come to put our trust in Jesus, it is a covenant relationship like marriage, since we become His forever. Our love is to grow. It should make us lovesick when we are not able to spend time with Jesus and His Word. In fact, it should cause us to be compelled to spend time with Him every day. I pray that is true for all of us, now and always.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 6-8 and Isaiah 1.
