Two are Better than One
In our discipleship time we have as a church on Sunday evenings, for the past two weeks we have been studying having fellowship with other believers. I think it may have surprised some of the people that the Bible has so much to say about the importance of fellowship. God made us in His image, and part of being like Him is that we can have relationships. We can fellowship with the Lord and with others. Both are needed to help us to be like Jesus. Even Solomon knew this truth 900 years before Jesus. (Ecclesiastes 4:9,10) We need to hear what He told us loud and clear, so that we apply it to our lives and benefit from it.
When we have two of us together, there are many benefits. One thing is that when we work together, we can do more than twice as much as we can do alone. This is true of physical labor, and it is true of our spiritual work for the Lord. When we have a friend beside us, if we fall, he or she will lift us up. Again, that is true of a physical fall or a fall into sin or grief or some spiritual pit. However, if we try to do everything by ourselves, when we fall there is no one to lift us up. That is a very sad situation. I am sure we have all known people who have cut themselves off from other people, only to come to a time of need. Then, since they have not cultivated good fellowship with others, there is no one to come to their aid. As we know to have friends, we must be a friend. I pray that we all will decide to pursue godly relationships with others, and then, we will see how God will bless our lives greatly.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 6-8.
