Solomon's Conclusion about Life
Remember that Ecclesiastes is the story of Solomon's search to find the meaning of life. He was wise enough and rich enough to test everything in the world and find if it contained the best life had to offer. Well, after all of the wealth, pleasure, and other areas that he searched, he reached a conclusion. (Ecclesiastes 12:13,14) I believe this is significant coming from the wisest and wealthiest man who ever lived.
Solomon's search led him back to God. His conclusion was that the best thing anyone can do is to keep God's commandments. This only makes sense, because we know God is love, and He is far wiser than Solomon, so His commandments are set forth to tell us what is best for us in life. Also, we should keep them, since God gave us the ultimate motivation for obedience. He is going to judge each of us as to how we kept His commandments, even with every secret thing, whether good or bad. He decided to do this because He knew human nature. People do what we inspect, not what we expect. Therefore, God is going to do a thorough inspection of our lives, when we pass from this life to eternity. The worse way to start eternity would be to stand before the Lord and to be ashamed of what we did or did not do in this life, even if we are His child and headed for heaven. I pray this is your conclusion, too, so that you will find the best life here, and have a favorable judgment when you stand before the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 2-5.
