Holding to the Right Way
A righteous person is one who has found the way to be right with God and with people. Of course, salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to be right with God. Once we realize that, and we receive the gift of salvation, we know we have found the right way. The way to be right with people is to follow the Word of God in order to love others and treat them as God says we should. When we fail, we seek forgiveness from the Lord and from the other person. That keeps us righteous before others. The result of being righteous is that we have the peace of God in our hearts, and we are at peace with others. Therefore, we hold to the right way, no matter what happens. Job knew he was righteous, so he confessed to his friends that the righteous holds to his way, and he who has clean hands gets stronger and stronger. (Job 17:9) Job was suffering greatly, and he was working though depression, but he was not going to forsake his way and do the wrong thing, even though he did not understand why. He is a picture of spiritual strength during the grief process.
I wonder how we are doing at holding to the right way? Have you found the way to be right with God and others? Do you see the great benefits? If you answered yes to these two questions, your life should be stable and set on holding to your way. You should be getting stronger and stronger in your convictions and in your actions. If not, something is not the way God means for it to be. He wants all of us to be witnesses to those who don't know the way to righteousness, so they can come to Him and live lives of peace, too. This is why God makes us stronger and stronger. It is why Job never gave up, and his friends could see how strong he was in his suffering. Let's be a good example of spiritual strength to others, too, as we hold to the right way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 19-21.
