Fulfilling God's Purpose
David's son, Solomon, was chosen to take the throne after his father and to build a house for the name of the Lord in Jerusalem. (I Kings 5:5) What an honor! To be chosen to be the king over God's people would have been fantastic, but to get to build the temple of the Lord was the greatest privilege Solomon was given. How about you? What is God's purpose for your life? If you know it, have you fulfilled it? Those are two of the most important questions any of us could ever answer.
God has an ultimate purpose for everyone who is born into this world. We are to glorify His name in all we do. Of course, the first thing we can do to bring Him glory is to surrender to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith, giving our lives to Him as our Lord. After that decision to come to know Christ, we are to grow in His likeness every day until we get to be with Him in heaven. However, God has very specific purposes for us, as well. He either wants us to be single, or He has a specific person for us to marry. He has a job for us to do for His glory. That job can be our vocation to make money, or it could be to raise a family. Both are equally as important. Then, God has specific work for His kingdom that we are gifted to accomplish. All of these things encompass our purposes, and we will be judged on how we did. That is why they are so important for all of us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 8-10.
