Deliverance by Many or by Few
The Philistines came against Israel's army in the days of King Saul, and they had all of the swords and spears, plus there were only 600 men with Saul. It looked like a hopeless situation. However, Jonathan, Saul's son, had great faith in the Lord, so that he took his armor bearer and called out part of the Philistine garrison. The two of them attacked the Philistines, and they killed 20 men very quickly. Then, God sent an earthquake and the Philistines ran for their lives. Saul's army gave chase, and the enemy was defeated soundly. How did this happen? It was because Jonathan trusted the Lord, and he knew a great spiritual principle we all need to know. (I Samuel 14:6) I pray we will all live by this truth.
Jonathan knew that God is not impressed with the power of numbers. God is so powerful that He can deliver us with many people or with a few people. The numbers are not the deciding factor. It is trusting in the power of God and what He is leading us to do. If we think we have to gather a crowd to win a victory, we will miss out on many things God has for us. We must be willing to say to the Lord, "Use me to bring the solution." Then, we must have faith that He can. If it is His will, we can do whatever it takes to accomplish a great deliverance or a fantastic victory. Let's decide to practice this like Jonathan and see what the Lord does through us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 15-17.
