Disciples, Sent Out for God's Work

We talk a lot about being disciples of Jesus Christ, because every believer is a disciple of Christ. There are no Christians who later decide to become disciples. I do not believe that is a Biblical belief. However, some disciples are fully-trained, mature Christians, and others get stuck in the process of growing, never making it to what the Lord intended for them. In reality, all Christians have a work that God intends for us to do. If we are to fully follow Jesus, we will embrace that calling and be sent out by the Lord and His church to do His will for us. That is just what happened to Barnabas and Saul. (Acts 13:2,3) As they sought out the Lord's will with a group of believers in Antioch, the Holy Spirit called them out to be the first traveling evangelists and church planters. Their story applies to all of us.

One way we get to know the work of God for us is to pray and fast with other believers, even those in a small group at our church. Then, as we pray and seek God, the Spirit will speak to our hearts very plainly, so that we see what God has gifted us to do and how He wants us to do it. All of us are different, but we are all gifted by the Spirit in some way to be able to reach out to those who do not know the Lord. Then, once we surrender to God's call on our life, our friends can pray and fast for us, sending us out to do God's work. That is the greatest blessing of being a disciple of Jesus. Please, do not stop in your growth process before you get to the goal God has for your life and fulfill it. It will be amazing!

Tomorrow, I intend to read Acts 14-17.
