The Best Persuasion to Trust in God
Jesus told the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus. I believe it is a true story, because no parable includes names. Therefore, what Jesus says here is to be taken very literally. When the rich man is in the fires of Hades, he wants Abraham to send Lazarus back to warn his 5 brothers. However, Abraham tells him that if they will not listen to the Word of God, they will not listen to one who is raised from the dead to speak with them. (Luke 16:31) That is an awesome truth.
The Word of God is sharp and powerful. It is alive. God uses it to speak to our hearts in a very powerful way. It cuts us to our hearts and it points out our sins and our intentions when we hear it. (Hebrews 4:12) Therefore, if we want to persuade someone to trust Jesus, we should use the Word of God, nothing is more powerful. In fact, even if we had a person who came back from the dead with a warning, that person would not have the power of the Bible. That is why we do not need sensationalism to evangelize. We just need to plant the seed of the gospel by sharing just what God has said.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 17-19.
