Simply Obedient
Today we remember a great account of Peter being simply obedient to the Lord Jesus. It is a remarkable story when we consider the facts. Jesus was a carpenter/teacher. He was beginning His ministry, when He borrowed Simon Peter's fishing boat. He sat in it and taught the crowd of people on the shore. After He finished, Jesus instructed a hard-headed fisherman, who had fished all night, which was the prime time to catch fish, but had caught nothing, to launch the boat in the daytime and put down the nets they had just cleaned. What did Peter say? He reminded Jesus that they had worked hard all night and caught nothing. Then, he said, "but I will do as You say," and he let down his nets. (Luke 5:5) The result was a miraculous catch of fish that almost sunk the boat.
How many of us would have argued with Jesus? How many of us do argue with Jesus when He tells us to do something that is not logical, or we are too tired to do it? Perhaps that is why we do not see the miracles we ought to see. Peter had simple faith that led him to be simply obedient. When he did that all through his life, he saw great things. When he argued or disobeyed, it was a terrible result. I pray we have all learned this lesson. First of all, I pray we are listening to the Spirit direct us in God's will. Then, I pray we will simply obey, and leave the results to God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Luke 6-8.
