Watch Over Your Heart Diligently
When we speak of the heart, it can mean two basic things. It can mean our physical heart, which is the organ of the body that pumps our blood to the tissues to keep us alive. Also, it can mean our inmost person, the part of us that makes decisions, as well as, the seat of our feelings. The second meaning is the spiritual meaning that we read about often in God's Word. God had shown Solomon that it was absolutely necessary to watch over our heart, because from it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs 4:23) In other words, our heart determine our life, so we must be careful to guard it.
If we take into our heart things like pornography, juicy gossip, and evil schemes, then those things will spring forth in our life. In fact, we do not have to take in those unholy things, because the world, the flesh, and the Devil are constantly presenting them to our 5 senses, hoping they will find their way into our heart. This is Satan's way of destroying us. Therefore, we must be diligent 24/7 to watch over our heart. We must not intentionally or unintentionally allow unrighteousness to flow into our heart. We must do just the opposite. We must fill our heart with God's Word and with all of the things that are holy, pure, right, and of good report. Then, we will see the springs of the heart pour forth these things to fill our life and shape our life to be peaceful and productive for the glory of God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 5-7.
