Finding the Way of Life
Solomon gave us a great insight into finding the right way in live. It is fairly simple, too. Anyone can do these three things and find the way of life for themselves. (Proverbs 6:23) God has made it plain for all of us because of His great love for us. He does not want to hide truth from us, but to make it obvious for all. Let's see what the Lord inspired Solomon to tell us.
"For the commandment is a lamp." God gave us many commandments in His Word. Each one is a "lamp" to show us the way of life. He designed life, and He loves us, so He gave us commands, so we would not live in darkness, but clearly see the way of life. The light of a commandment is clear, specific, and strong for all to see, if we will just take God's commandments to heart and keep them.
"The teaching is light." Other passages in the Bible give us principles, instead of commandments. As we learn the principles, they shed "light" on what we should do in various life situations. We can't get too must teaching on God's Word, because we can't have too much light on the way of life.
"Reproofs for discipline are the way of life." We also need others to help show us the way by correcting us or reproving us when we get off track in life. Discipline is what we need to keep us doing the right things in life. Therefore, when we need to be reproved for missing the way we should go in our lives, God sends someone to hold us accountable, and to get us back in the center of His will.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 8-11.
