Pride Results in Dishonor
Pride is at the root of many sins and life problems. It is so easy to become proud. We can be so proud of our looks, our intellect, our profession, or our possessions. That is to just name a few things that can bring out pride in our heart. That is why I want to share the warning from the Lord today. (Proverbs 11:2) In fact, Solomon should have taken this advice the Lord inspired him to record for us.
"When pride comes, then comes dishonor." Of course, dishonor is the opposite of lifting someone up to show their significance. It is when we bring shame on ourselves by something we say or do, so that we find ourselves being looked down upon by other people. When we are dishonored, it is one of the worst feelings in the world. Maybe, we lied or cheated, and we were caught. Perhaps, we boasted and failed in our bragging. It could be that we thought we were so smart and rich that we were invincible, only to be brought down to poverty. Whatever the cause of the dishonor, it is so often triggered by pride in our lives.
Therefore, we must always remember, "with the humble is wisdom." Humility is the pathway to wisdom, and if we have wisdom, we will not fall into the traps of Satan, as he leads us to dishonor. In fact, we will be lifted up by the Lord as one who knew we could not operate without Him, so we cried to Him for His wisdom. That is one of the greatest feelings in the world. I pray that all of us will know that exultation, instead of coming to dishonor.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 12-15.
