Sharpen the Ax
Most of us want our lives to be easier, instead of taking more effort. Solomon realized that, so he included a principle for all of us. It is couched in terms of having a sharp ax, instead of having a dull ax. When we cut with an ax that is dull, it takes more effort, more strength. Therefore, for the job to be easier, we must take time to sharpen the ax. That saves time and strength. (Ecclesiastes 10:10) The key is, though, how do we sharpen our ax? He tells us.
God is the One who can sharpen our ax, and He does it by giving us wisdom when we ask for it. (James 1:5) However, sometimes He may want us to apply our hearts to gaining His wisdom and understanding. That is when a good education under His leadership is essential. If we want to learn to be a doctor, we can learn everything ourselves, or we can go to school and learn from teachers. They help us learn the understanding, that will help us pass the tests and become a doctor. We need to do the same thing with the Lord. We need to take His Word, and then, ask Him to be our Teacher. He will illuminate His Word by the Holy Spirit. Then, we will get wisdom, which will sharpen our ax. We will end up being successful, because that is the advantage of wisdom.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 11-12 and Song of Solomon 1.
