Avoiding Sexual Lust
Sexual lust is a huge problem for many people. It leads to all kinds of relationship problems, divorce, and addiction. It can even lead to other serious physical problems and diseases. It is advantageous for everyone to avoid sexual lust, even though today, it is seen as normal and OK. Song of Solomon gives us a big clue about avoiding it. (Song of Solomon 7:10) Let's think about what it says, so we can apply it.
It is very true that God gave us healthy sexual desires. The problem is that people distort what is healthy by fulfilling those desires in the wrong way. One thing that causes that to happen is our sinful hearts and minds which feel wrongly or think wrongly. Therefore, we need to realize what God intended for our sexual desire. It is to be for our husband or wife, not for anyone else. If we can learn that early in life and do whatever we can to stay away from things that lead us to desire others by not looking at pornography or putting ourselves in a vulnerable position with the opposite sex, it helps a lot not to act upon our feelings. However, we must still pray diligently and consistently for God's Spirit to empower us to stay away from it. Then, we set our heart on finding the person God made for us, so we can have our desire for that person alone and to fulfill it only with him or her. In that way we experience the greatest fulfillment, and it lasts for years and years of marriage.
Tomorrow, I tend to read Song of Solomon 8 and Isaiah 1-2.
