The End of God's Patience

God is so gracious and loving. His mercy lasts forever. However, His patience does come to an end after He has extended every mercy and waited for us to repent. Judah found out this truth the hard way. The king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, burned down the temple, broke down all of the walls, and carried away all of the rest of the valuables, as well as many of the people who survived the siege. (II Chronicles 36:19,20) If we do not learn the lesson of this time in history, we may be destined for the same fate.

As we have read several times in the books of Chronicles, God sent prophets to warn the people. They gave a clear message from God's Word, and everyone knew what they should do. However, time and again they returned to their own ways, worshiping idols and forsaking God to pursue their pleasures. This went on for hundreds of years, until God's patience came to an end. No one knew when that would happen, but when it did, there was nothing that anyone could do to avert the disaster. When will God's patience run out on us and on America? Since no one knows, today is the day to repent of our sins and to do all we can to call America to turn to the Lord.

That is one reason we will observe the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 4. I hope you will be intentional about setting aside time to prayer personally that day. I also want to invite everyone to join us at NHBC, as we gather with our North Henry Academy family to pray for ourselves, our families, our churches, and our country. We will meet in the worship center at 9:30 am. May God hear our prayers and the prayers of His people all across the United States and the world.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezra 1-3.
