Joyful Worship

Worship is meant to be an experience of expressing our joy in the Lord and our praise of Him. It is not meant to be a ritual, or just a series of songs we sing and a message we hear. Worship is a verb, because it is something each of us should do in private and in our corporate times of worship. However, we get to choose the adverb that will describe our worship. The people of God in the days of King Hezekiah chose to worship joyfully. (II Chronicles 30:21) What will we choose?

Not only did King Hezekiah restore the Feast of Unleavened Bread and the Passover in a way that it had not been celebrated since Solomon, the people celebrated with great joy for seven days. Each day the Levites and the priests praised the Lord with loud instruments like King David had done. They were happy to forsake their sins, and to remember the way God brought them up out of Egypt from the bondage of being slaves. Are we just as joyful and ready to praise Him when we enter the worship service at our churches? Is it a joy to forsake our sins? Do we celebrate being set free by Jesus? I believe any other type of worship is not worthy of our Great God and our Lord Jesus Christ. Let's set our hearts to worship with great joy each week and to let everyone see how Jesus has filled us with joy, peace, and love.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 31-33.
