Being Delivered In Your Affliction
Most people today are focused on being delivered "from" their affliction. Whatever the affliction may be. God does not always do that for His children. Sometimes, He does just as good or better by delivering us "in" our affliction. (Job 36:15) Elihu presented this truth in his response to Job. We need to hear what he said, loud and clear.
God is able to deliver us in our afflictions without taking them away from us or without taking us away from them. It is amazing, but true. God can give the prisoner on death row the peace that passes understanding, so that he is delivered in his affliction. His affliction is not an affliction to him any more. The Lord can give joy to a family whose house burns to the ground with all of their possession inside. In that time of their oppression He opens their ears to hear His promises, and He fills their hearts with unspeakable joy. The Lord can give the parents of a murdered child great, supernatural love for the murderer without bringing their child back to life. All of these are examples of people who were delivered in their afflictions by having their ears opened by the oppression, so they received God's blessing in the storms of life.
I pray that no matter how afflicted you may be that you will run to the Lord for deliverance, knowing that He could deliver you from it or in it, but either way, you are truly delivered.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 37-39.
