The End of Selfishness

When we are selfish, we are saying that we are more important than anyone else. We put our own needs first, because we think we deserve it. This is what is normal in our human nature. However, God did not design us to live in selfishness. He wants us all to realize the most important Person in the universe, and live for Him. (II Corinthians 5:14,15) If we do this, it will be the end of selfishness in our lives.

Jesus died for all people. He did this because we were all dead in our sins. He died for us because He loved us, and He wanted to die in our place, so we could have life. Therefore, once we realize the magnitude of His love, and the purpose of His death, we should put our trust in Him as the Lord of all, who became our Savior by dying on the cross and rising again for our salvation. At that point, we realize He is the most important Person, and we should live for Him, instead of living for ourselves. Living for Jesus is the way God intended for all of us to live, because there could be no better life than that. Also, when we live for Him, we will become like Him, so we will unselfishly minister to others like He did by giving Himself for all people.

Therefore, we need to take an inventory of our lives to discern the level of selfishness. Then, we need to ask ourselves if we still have selfishness, because we have not been saved by His grace and changed by His Spirit, or if we are being ungrateful for Jesus and/or disobedient to Him. Then, we need to rectify the problem by giving ourselves fully to Him as Lord of our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Corinthians 6-8.
