Overcoming Temptations
God wants us to overcome every temptation He allows into our lives, as believers. However, many believers do not know this, and they are unaware of God's promise about temptations, so they fail. Paul gave us what we need to know to be victorious over every kind of temptation every time. (I Corinthians 10:13) Every believer needs to know this verse and have it memorized.
The first part of this verse gives us a truth to remember when we are tempted. Our temptations are not worse than the temptations of other people, but temptations are common to all people. The Devil will try to tell us that we have a much more drastic problem than other people have to try to discourage us. We must not fall for the lie, but know that all temptations are common, and they are all able to be overcome in God's way.
Next, we must always remember the promise that God is faithful. He will not allow us, as His children, to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear. He knows us. He created us just like we are. He knows our weaknesses and strengths, so He knows just how much we can overcome. His purpose in allowing the temptation is for us to be victorious, so our faith in Him will grow, and we will be able to handle even bigger temptations in the future.
Finally, we must be assured that there is always a way given to us by God to escape the temptation without committing a sin. This is the second part of God's promise. The Devil will tell us we only have two options, and both of them are bad. That is never the case, because God always makes a way out. Then, when we see His way out, we take it, and the Devil is defeated, our faith grows, and we are ready to do whatever God wants us to do.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Corinthians 11-13.
