The Lord Gave, and the Lord Has Taken Away.
Job suffered more loss in one day than most people suffer in a lifetime. He lost all of his children, his livestock, and his other possessions. God allowed Satan to take everything except his wife and his health to prove that Job did not serve God, because of the hedge of protection God had placed around him and the blessings he had given him. When all of this happened, Job was terribly sad, but he acknowledged the Lord's right to give and to take away what He had given. Then, he blessed the name of the Lord in worship. (Job 1:21,22) What a fabulous testimony of faith in the Lord!
How do you view the Lord? Is He the Giver of all good things? Does He have authority to take away what He has given? If God is Lord of all, He definitely has that authority to give and take away. The important thing is that we acknowledge Him as Lord like Job did, even when things go very badly for us. It is important that we trust Him so much that we worship Him when things seem to be falling apart. We can do this because we know He is in control of all things, and we have given ourselves to Him as the Lord of our lives. Once He is our Lord, we can be satisfied with nothing except Him in our lives.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 2-5.
