Begging for Mercy

Sometimes, we may feel like Job and want to question God about why things happen to us, especially bad things. However, we should be careful when we think that way. Yes, Job wanted to address God about his pain, but he realized that he could never answer God, even if he were righteous. Therefore, he would just have to beg for mercy. (Job 9:15) What about you? Do you question God or ask for mercy?

God is all-wise and all-loving. When we doubt either of these two things about Him, we are doubting that He is God. The Almighty God has to be all-wise to be the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. Therefore, we are fooling ourselves if we think there is something He doesn't know, or that He is looking at things wrongly. Also, His very nature is love. He is all-loving simply by the nature of who He is. He is the God who is love. Therefore, all He does is done in love. If we see these things as Job did, we will know there is no need to question God. We could not answer Him, if He did enter a debate with us.

However, He is abundant in mercy. His mercy never fails. Therefore, we should always simply cry out for mercy when we find ourselves in a very difficult situation like Job did. Since He is all-wise and all-loving, His mercy is perfect for every situation to bring us through and to comfort us, while we are still traveling the hard road. I believe this is something all of us would do well to remember and to practice.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 10-12.
